Instagram é um lugar maravilhoso, né? Lá a gente conhece pessoas incríveis meio sem querer e emenda uma conversa depois daquela paixão pelo feed alheio. E foi numa dessas que conheci a Sophie Southmayd, stylist da Ralph Lauren e dona de uma loja de acessórios que ela garimpa por aí, a Histoire Jewelry.
Conversei um pouco com ela sobre tendências, closets dos sonhos e até peguei algumas dicas de brechó para quem for conhecer Londres.

Com que idade você ficou fascinada por moda?
R: Desde que eu era criança – se eu amasse um vestido, usaria até ir pra cama e me recusaria a tirar. Era o jeito que meus pais tinham para me obrigar a fazer as coisas que queriam, me motivar com a promessa de comprar as roupas que eu queria haha
Como você se mantém antenada às tendências?
R: Estou sempre nas mídias sociais, lendo meus blogs preferidos ou buscando inspiração em contas no Tumblr.
Falando nisso, quais tendências você tá amando?
R: Amo/sou essa vibe anos 80/90 que tá forte há anos. É como se a Empire Records se encontrasse com As Patricinhas de Beverly Hills. Misturar masculino e feminino, fica um look tão bonito.
Como você acabou trabalhando na Ralph Lauren?
R: Comecei a trabalhar no departamento criativo deles, cuidando do look das lojas e não dos clientes. Mas senti falta de trabalhar com pessoas e fiz a transição para Styling logo depois.
Vi que você tem uma loja de joias, por que/como decidiu começar?
R: Histoire é meu amor – comecei há dois anos com a @aprillizhudson e esgotamos tudo em uma semana. Fazemos uma coleção semestral em que garimpamos joias em leilões e brechós. Você compra um pedaço de história e não só o que todo mundo tá usando. É trazer o velho mundo para o novo.
Você tem alguma dica para garimpar em brechós? Onde visitar em Londres?
R: Broadway Market é incrível para achar ótimas peças, também gosto da feira do Covent Garden aos domingos. Saiba o que procurar – às vezes fico com os “olhos de brechó” e começo a achar tudo demais, mas quando chego em casa percebo que não era tão legal quanto parecia.
Se pudesse roubar o armário de qualquer celebridade, quem escolheria?
R: Sienna Miller, com certeza da Alexa Chung e Emmanuel Alt.

She’s senior stylist at Ralph Lauren and co-founder of a jewelry line that sells vintage pieces scoured in Paris flea markets and auction houses, Histoire Jewelry.
We’ve talked about fashion trends, our dream closet and I even asked her to give me a few tips on how to find the best vintage pieces at flea markets.

At what age and how did you start becoming fascinated with fashion?
A: Since I was a kid – if I loved a dress, I would wear it to bed and refused to take it off. It was the one way my parents could get me to do things, motivation through the promise to buy me the clothes I wanted haha
How do you stay updated on the current trends?
A: I’m always on social media, or reading my fave blogs or scrolling through tumblr accounts for inspiration
Speaking of which, what trends are you loving right now?
A: I’m all about that 80s – 90s vibe that has been going strong for years. Kind of like Empire Records meets Clueless. Mix masculine with feminine, it’s such a good look.
How did you end up in Ralph Lauren?
A: I started working in their Creative department, styling the look of the stores and not the clients. I missed working with people though, and I made the switch to Styling shortly after.
I saw you have your own jewelry line (me too!), why did you decide to start it?
A: Histoire is my baby – I started it two years ago with @aprillizhudson and it sold out in one week. We do a bi-annual collection where we pick up jewelry at auction houses and flea markets. It’s about buying a piece of history and not just buying what everyone else is wearing. Bringing the old world to the new.
Do you have any advice on finding the perfect piece in antique markets? Where should we visit in London?
A: Broadway Market is amazing for finding great pieces, and I also like Covent Garden market on Sunday’s. Know what you’re looking for – sometimes I get flea market eyes and everything starts looking nice but when I get home I realize it’s not as cool as I thought
If you could raid any celeb’s closet, who would you choose?
A: Sienna Miller, definitely Alexa Chung, Emmanuel Alt
